  • Medical

Medical emergencies in office buildings are relatively rare occurrences. Nonetheless, it is prudent to prepare for such an emergency. It is also important to note that there are legislative requirements for employers under WorksafeBC regulations.

Download the Medical Emergencies document. This document outlines some basic information on medical emergencies and provides some practical recommendations. Links to additional sources of information are provided.

  • Earthquake

Vancouver is located in a region where seismic activity can be expected. It is prudent for all businesses in the building to be prepared for an earthquake. Considerable information is available from many sources on earthquake preparedness, some of which are listed in the following document.

Download our Earthquake Information document; it is not meant to replace information available from qualified sources, but merely to provide information that is specific to an office environment and to Latitude Uptown.

  • Fire Safety

Latitude Uptown is equipped with modern fire detection and prevention equipment. The building is fully sprinklered, and the fire alarm system is monitored 24 hours.

For full details, please refer to the Fire Safety Plan located on your premises.

If you hear the fire bells, please observe the following:

    – If the bells ring intermittently (approximately 30 strokes per minute), you must stand by. There is an alarm elsewhere in the building, but you do NOT need to evacuate. Please stand by and listen for updates and instructions that will be announced over the public announcement system.

    – If the bells ring continuously (approximately 300 strokes per minute), you must evacuate the building immediately. Proceed to the nearest fire exit stairwell and descend to the ground floor. Do NOT use the elevators. When you have reached the outside, move away from the building. Go to the designated assembly area (sidewalk along 400 Burrard Street) and wait for the floor warden for your floor. Do NOT go back into the building for any reason until the Fire Department has advised when it is safe to do so.

If you discover a fire, you must leave the fire area, and IMMEDIATELY sound the fire alarm system by activating the red alarm pull station located near the stairwell doors.
